Ajari Yûsui Tôkô, a Buddhist ascetic from Nachi (modern Wakayama Prefecture), arrives with his guide in Adachi-ga-hara and Kuro-zuka in Mutsu-no-kuni (modern Aomori Prefecture) just as the sun is setting, so they decide to stay the night. As they are falling asleep, they are overcome by a supernatural power, and remember that there are many fox-demons in the area. Yûsui finds the fox-demon, which has taken the form of a young girl, and grapples with her, but she eats his guide and he only narrowly escapes. Later, the fox-demon is banished by Miura-nosuke and Kazusa-no-suke, acting on an imperial order.
