Susanowo-no-mikoto, in his alternate form, Shôki-ômikami, the Plague-dueller, expels Daiekijin, the Plague God, who kills many people with 404 sicknesses (according to Buddhist teaching, the human body is made from the four elements, earth, water, fire, and wind. If one of these four elements is out of balance, one becomes sick. There is a total of 404 sicknesses). Shôki-ômikami uses a straw ring to capture the invisible Daiekijin and then vanquishes him with a sword.
